JNBS MASTERS LEAGUE ROUND 6 PREVIEW

Mark Miller (Police Nationals)

Michael McIntosh (St. George's)

Kirk Williams (Constant Spring's GK)

jnbs masters league round 6 preview    13.7.2011 –  This Sunday's round 6 of the 2011 JNBS Masters League marks the halfway point of the twelve game elder statesman KSAMLA O-40 football competition.

UWI BOWL The marquee double-header of the day at UWI Bowl has Pelicans against Packers in the 4:30 pm feature, while Harbour View clash with Thunderbolts in the 3:00 pm curtain raiser.

Fresh from their dominating 2-0 win over Constant Spring, Pelicans are clear favorite to prevail over Packers. However, Packers, led by former Jamaican international Donald Stewart, who captained the Reggae Boyz to their Lunar cup win in China under coach Bora Milutinovic in 2007, are capable of pulling a few feathers from the Pelicans.

Harbour View clawed their way from the bottom of zone B to 10th place, and on their best day are capable of taking all three points from former multiple League champions Thunderbolts.

SHORTWOOD OVAL The 4:30 pm feature game at Shortwood Oval is a battle of the masters league newcomers Cavalier and Police Nationals. Both teams have played very well to be on course for a quarter-finals spot.

With Mark Miller, the dean of masters league football leading Police, and David Laylor, one of the most versatile journeyman in the league leading Cavalier, this contest is too close to call, and will go to the team that wants it the most.

There is very little in the form book to separate Shortwood and MV Exodus. However, Shortwood are unbeaten in their last two games, fresh from a big win over St. George's, and are given the edge to score a win over MV Exodus.

BELL CHUNG OVAL Both Santos and Christian Ambassadors are in mid-pack of zone B, and are enjoying a very ordinary season. Nevertheless, a rivalry has been established over the years which will result in a hard fought entertaining contest that could go either way. Advantage Santos.

After a one year hiatus, St. George's are back in KSAMLA competition, but may find Telecom Strikers a bit too much to handle.

DUHANEY PARK A classic match-up is anticipated between host Park Rovers and Maxfield as both teams are playing well in zone A, and are unbeaten after five rounds; too close to call.

Nautica are second from bottom and winless in the zone-of-death (zone B), while Portmore Masters are fresh from a sensational 1-0 upset win over Santos. If Portmore's leading striker, Jeremy James, can repeat his dream solo run of last round, which saw him magically wheeze past four Santos defenders before neatly slotting home past Nyron Prawl, then Portmore could register their second win of the season.

MARVERLY OVAL After being blanked by Pelicans last round, Constant Spring will be seeking to rebound at the expense of Lion Kings. However, the Lions tamed Christian Ambassadors in their last game, and are quite capable of handing Spring their second successive loss.

Washington Strikers are the cellar-dwellers of zone A, while Eastern have earned a mere 1 point all season. Former Jamaican international, Michael Tulloch, the 2009 leading goal scorer, could come alive and give Washington Strikers all three points.
